Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services

Supporting research utilisation

The ability to acquire, assess, adapt and apply research (research utilisation or RU) is vital for effective service redesign. The project involved identifying and developing appropriate RU support tools for those responsible for service design in Scottish social services agencies.

Transition from FE to HE

The Institute for and Innovation in Social Services aims to promote positive outcomes for the people who use Scotland’s social services by enhancing the capacity and capability of the social services workforce to access and make use of knowledge & research for service innovation & improvement. One of its services is the Learning Exchange, the world's first interactive library of digital learning resources for social work education.

The Transition Project involved:

  • assessing the issues affecting learning materials development for students moving from the Scottish Higher National Certificate (HNC) in health & social care into higher education
  • establishing priorities for learning objects development
  • writing and commissioning content for learning objects.
